photoSAFETY RULES

Outdoor Adventures is one of the oldest and largest paintball facilities in the United States, running more than 15,000 players annually. More than 200,000 players have played at Outdoor Adventures since we began in 1988. Despite the fact that Paintball's injury rate is one-fifth that of fishing, bowling, golf and tennis, we are very much aware that we give guns to people and tell them it’s okay to shoot each other. The reason that paintball is so safe is because our well-trained, experienced Customer Service Representatives are with you to enable you to have fun in a safe and fair environment, and to enforce the following rules.

Guns (we call them ‘markers’) must be carried un-cocked, pointed at the ground, with fingers off the trigger and a barrel bag in place. Markers can only be ready to shoot while playing in a paintball game.

  • VIOLATORS WILL BE EJECTED WITH NO WARNINGS!
  • GOGGLES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES OUTSIDE THE REGISTRATION & PARKING LOT AREAS.
  • DO NOT SHOOT THE WILDLIFE. Leave the squirrels their natural colors, please.
  • NO PHYSICAL CONTACT. You cannot touch another player (no hostages, interrogations, kidnapping, etc).
  • NO SHOOTING AT THE HEAD OR NECK. At point blank range (20 feet or closer), you must not shoot any player above the shoulders. No executions, please.
  • NO BLIND SHOOTING. Always be aware of where you are shooting. You may NOT stick your marker around a tree or over a log or barricade, etc. and blindly shoot at an opponent.
  • NO POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS GEAR. Knives, trip wire, firearms, explosives, incendiaries, etc. Lock up the toys in your car and we’ll keep your keys for you.
  • NO SMOKING. NO ALCOHOL OR ILLEGAL DRUGS. Even if you offer to share.
  • NO VERBAL ABUSE, such as slurs against anyone’s race, color, religion or parents.
  • NO CLIMBING OF TREES OR STRUCTURES.
  • DO NOT TRY TO TAKE YOUR GUNS APART. If you need equipment service, ask our Customer Service Representatives, who will gladly assist you.
  • AVOID FIELD HAZARDS. You are playing in the woods. Trees don't move much when you head-butt or face-plant into them. Watch where you are running.

Leave your wallets, cell phones, jewelry, watches, money, beepers, etc. in your car and give us your car keys for safekeeping. We only test-drive select models and you may have your keys back at any time. It is very easy to lose your possessions in the excitement of a paintball game.

Paintball is a capture the flag game. It is not a shoot at everybody you see including your own teammates, staff, and spectators game. Each field is about the size of a soccer or lacrosse field, and we have 10 separate fields in the woods and four netted ‘concept’ fields on 80 acres. Each field has 2 goals called flag stations, positioned like lacrosse or hockey goals, located a few feet in from the ends of the fields. Your team starts in one station and the opposing team starts in the other station. A flag with our logo on it hangs in each station, and the object is to grab the other team’s flag and bring it back to your station. The flags match your armband color, and you cannot touch your own flag. It’s easy to get turned around in the excitement of a game, so if you’re not completely sure that you’re pulling the opponent’s flag, you may want to casually look at your armband to make sure the color is different.  You must carry the flag in your hand openly, although you can hide it behind your back, etc.

Even though you watched all three of the Matrix movies, a ball may occasionally hit you, despite your lightning reflexes. If this happens it is very likely that several more balls are in the air traveling rather quickly in your direction. DON’T JUST STAND THERE!  Move sideways at least a body width, get behind a bunker or tree and check to see if that ball broke and left a spot of paint the size of a nickel or larger anywhere on your body or equipment (marker hits count). If there is a spot of paint that size anywhere on you (even a finger or toe counts) you are eliminated and you must immediately put your hand or marker above your head and yell at the people shooting at you “I’M OUT’ as loud as you can. If you say anything else like, "That was a lucky shot”, it just sounds like,” Shoot me some more, please, I rather like it.” Everyone wears a protective mask and ear protection, so be LOUD when announcing hits. Yelling more than once is a very good idea.

Keep your hand above your head as you walk to the sidelines (the referees will explain where to go on each field). Be sure to keep your goggles on.  You cannot give advice to your teammates after you are eliminated. Un-cock your marker when on the sidelines, bag it and keep it pointed at the ground.

KEEP YOUR GOGGLES ON!

If you are eliminated and have the other team's flag, yell “I’M OUT”, and then “FLAG”. If your team does not take it from you quickly, a referee will do so and hang it in plain sight.  You should then proceed to the sidelines as previously explained. Un-cock your marker when on the sidelines, bag it and keep it pointed at the ground.

DO NOT KEEP SHOOTING ELIMINATED PLAYERS!  If the staff sees you shoot obviously eliminated players, you will be eliminated, too!

PAINT-CHECKS. If you are hit in a place where you cannot see if the ball broke and left a spot of paint large enough to eliminate you, and one of your teammates can’t help, yell the word, "PAINT-CHECK", and a referee will come and check you. Please when yelling to the ref turn your head in their direction and yell loudly.  You are not neutral – you can still shoot and be shot – unless the referee calls you neutral when he gets there.  This doesn’t happen often, but when it does the referee will announce, “This player is neutral” while pointing at the player and waving a towel over his head.  Neutral players may not shoot, be shot at or advanced upon.

Games are 15 minutes long or end when a flag is hung. Games start when both teams are ready. The referees will announce, “5 second warning”, then “Go, Go, Go!” or blow a whistle to start the game. Games end with a whistle and the referees will announce “Game Over!”.  Un-cock your markers at this time.

Do not pick balls off the ground and put them into your marker. They are just gelatin capsules and will stick to the good balls in your marker and ruin them.

MARKERS ARE ALWAYS CARRIED UN-COCKED, BAGGED, AND POINTED AT THE GROUND WITH YOUR FINGERS OFF THE TRIGGER UNLESS YOU ARE ACTIVELY PLAYING IN A GAME.

MARKER INFO

When playing, imagine a carton of eggs on top your marker. Paintballs are very fragile and shaking your marker or banging it on trees or the ground will fracture some of the paintballs and the paint from these broken balls will melt together the remaining balls, thus ruining them.

Markers feed balls by gravity. The container on top of the gun, called the “hopper”, holds about 180 balls. Be sure the cap is tightly closed (it seals with a ‘click’).

The hopper must be vertically above the marker to allow balls to drop down into the marker. Turning the marker on its side or upside down will not allow balls to feed into it and will break balls in the breach.  And if that happens, the marker will not function well, if at all.

The markers are all semi-automatics, meaning that one ball comes out of the marker each time the trigger is pulled without having to re-cock the marker.  The markers at Outdoor Adventures are powered by clean, natural, compressed air, providing much higher performance than CO2.

To operate the marker:

  • Wait until instructed by one of our staff that it is safe to cock your marker.  Keeping the barrel pointed in a safe direction, remove the barrel bag and wrap it around the air tank fitting.  The guns are cocked by pulling the small button that protrudes from the back of the gun all the way back until it clicks. This button is actually the end of a short rod (or ‘cocking plunger’) and moves forward and backward rapidly when the trigger is pulled. When the plunger is pulled all the way back, the gun is cocked and ready to shoot. Do not put your finger or thumb in the way of this button or put the gun against a tree or bunker, as this will un-cock the gun. If this happens, just cock the gun again.

To un-cock your marker:

  • Make sure the hopper cap it tight and point your marker in a safe direction. Turn your marker upside down and shoot it twice (still in a safe direction) to clear any balls from the breach and barrel. With the marker still upside down, grasp the ‘cocking plunger’ tightly (don’t pull backward), pull the trigger, and gently let the plunger slide forward until it stops.  Place the barrel bag over the end of the barrel.
  • Un-cock your marker when the game is over or when you are on the sidelines.
  • Keep your gun pointed at the ground.

ANY QUESTIONS? Our staff will be more than happy to answer.  Sometimes correctly.

After every three or four games your group will come back to the registration area to rest, clean-up and have your equipment serviced, if necessary. Be sure to drink some water at this time. Playing Paintball is an intense activity and you can quickly become dehydrated. Remove your goggles – do not place them on top of your head – and other headgear or apparel to cool down. Spray anti-fog – solution in spray bottles provided for you – on the inside of your goggle lenses (and eyeglasses) and polish using the soft rags provided to help prevent fogging. DO NOT USE PAPER TOWELS ON GOGGLES!

When in the registration area, you may purchase extra paintballs, as well as candy, soda, sports drinks and snacks. Paintball pricing decreases per ball with volume purchases, so try to buy any extra balls as a group to save money.

Remember that you are responsible for your rental equipment. If lost or stolen you will be responsible to pay reasonable replacement cost for any equipment not returned at the end of the section. We recommended not leaving your equipment unattended.

Anyone playing in a rental group or using rental equipment is required to use field paintball only.    NO OUTSIDE PAINTBALLS ALLOWED IN A RENTAL GAME OR RENTAL EQUIPMENT!

When leaving, please drive slowly on the dirt access road to our facility. This road belongs to our landlord and he has small children that frequently play and bicycle on or near the road. NO OFF — ROAD DRIVING. Please stay on the road. Violators will be prosecuted for destruction of property.

Our staff will verbally remind you of these rules after you register. If you have any questions make notes and be sure to ask our staff before playing.

ARE YOU READY TO FEEL THE RUSH!
